Draft Grant Guidelines Available for Review on

$368 Million Statewide Park Grant Program

WHO/WHAT:  California State Parks, Office of Grants and Local Services is taking the first public step toward awarding $368 million in competitive Proposition 84 grants. The grants will fund new parks and recreational opportunities in critically underserved communities throughout California .  State Parks is holding public meetings to take public comments on the draft application requirements, and to ensure that they are user-friendly. Starting today, State Parks is making a draft application guide available for public review and comment.

Nine public hearings will be held throughout California this month.

Final application requirements will be adopted early 2009.  Applications from cities, counties, special districts, and nonprofit organizations will be due in fall 2009.

WHY: To allow for public comment on the proposed grant guidelines for the implementation of the Statewide Park Program as defined in Assembly Bill 31 (De Leon) Chapter 623, Statutes of 2008. The final procedure guide will contain the Statewide Park Program's application and grant guidelines that local agencies and non-profits will use to apply for the program's competitive grant funds.  The draft procedure guide will be available for public comment from December 1, 2008 through January 16, 2009 at www.parks.ca.gov/grants.
